'Round Lake Ontario: A Bicyclist's Tour
Guide, 3rd Edition
January, 2008, is when we will publish the third edition of 'Round
Lake Ontario: A Bicyclist's Tour Guide.
Here is a comment from one of the many bicyclist's who used the 2nd
edition wrote about this definitive tour guide:
I will publicly state, when I publish my crazyguy journal that your route is the right
route.
Every time I deviated from it I paid dearly.
J. S., Pepper Pike OH, July, 2007, www.crazyguyonabike.com
'Round Lake Ontario: A Bicyclist's Tour Guide has been
expanded! The 2nd Edition includes not only the complete
circumnavigation route, 600 mi. (965 km.), for Lake Ontario but also an additional 600 mi.
(965 km.) of routes along both sides of the Rideau Canal in Ontario and along both sides
of the St. Lawrence River.
The 'Round Lake Ontario route is essentially rural cycling
interrupted by only a few cities for 600 mi. (965 km.)! A cyclists delight!
A series of lightly traveled roads, most with wide paved shoulders,
ring the lake shore. In the few urban areas, Toronto, Hamilton, Kingston, ON and
Rochester, NY there are bikeways along the Lake. Its a flat ride almost all the
way. Not boring though, since the circumnavigating roads make small twists and have
occasional rolling hills thanks to the drumlins left behind by glaciers. The farmland
is broken by villages and resort areas (many in their original early 20th century glory),
wildlife refuges, and War of 1812 sites.
Its only a two week trip round Lake Ontario traveling at
10-15 mph. (16-24 kph.) for 50 mi. (80 km.) per day; including 2 non-riding days for
sightseeing in Toronto or lolling on beautiful beaches!
With the addition of the Kingston to Ottawa, ON routes along both sides
of the beautiful Rideau Canal; and the routes from Kingston, ON/Cape Vincent, NY to
Montréal, QC along the St. Lawrence River the touring bicyclist has more options to
cyclotour forever!
A connecting route from Montréal to Québec's Chambly Canal takes the
cyclotourist to Lake Champlain. From there the bicycle tourist can use the Erie
Canal Bicyclist & Hiker Tour Guide to travel along either side of Lake Champlain
to the Erie Canal at Albany, NY.
The weather, great! The June through September temperature is in
the mid 70s°F(low 20s°C). A bit lower at night with low humidity for perfect
sleeping. Average rainfall in summer is 2-3 in. (5-7 cm.) per month. Mighty fine
conditions for a two week cyclotour!

'Round Lake Michigan: A Bicyclist's Tour
Guide, 2nd. Edition
1300 miles (2100 kilometers) of magnificent riding. Thats
the equivalent of bicycling about half way across North America! Many cyclotourists
split their tour of this Great Lake into a 2 year adventure by using the across Lake
Michigan ferry.
The 2nd. Edition of 'Round Lake Michigan... includes
2 routes connecting Lake Michigan to Lake Huron in the middle and at the bottom of the
Lower Peninsula. An improved route through Indiana connects Lake Michigan to Lakes
Erie and Huron.
Bikeways in Chicago and Milwaukee lead to signed rural road
routes near the shore. Paved trails along abandoned rail beds bring you to delightful
small towns.
Around a bend, on a hidden peninsulas rural road, the Lake
emerges in your view as a sparkling blue sight. The Door and Traverse Peninsulas will
bring delight to your pedal strokes as you meet bicyclists simply enjoying a day or two of
riding.
Sleeping Bear and Indiana Dunes National Lake shores will amaze you.
The 300+ mi. (480+ km.) of National and State Forests will enchant you. These forests
extend 50-100 mi. (80-160 km.) inland and are interlaced with Mt. bike trails.
The vivid blue of the Lake will entice you to jump in to it!
Youll pull out your fishing pole and catch monsters of the deep blue. All this
without leaving the United States!
